“How Many Scoops?” Product
Tyto Kids' mission is to educate children about cultures found around the world and in their own backyard. An initial key objective was to conceptualize various appropriate revenue producing products and services that would support the organization's mission as well as generate necessary
funds for ongoing operations.
For the flagship product of Tyto Kids, a multi-lingual book was developed, "How Many Scoops?". The concept was to create a simple but engaging 64 page children's book to teach children aged 2+ to count to 10 as well as teach basic addition. The main character, the lovable Gator can't get enough ice-cream.
Throughout the book, children count the ice-cream scoops as more pile on top of each other. The illustrations and color palette were developed to engage the age appropriate audience.
Every product extension relates to the book and emphasizes counting to10 with the potential lesson of adding and subtracting scoops. Products ranged from an i-Pad matching game, plush animal, online ice cream creator game, magnet set, paper toys and more. The book came as both a soft cover print book as well as an interactive e-book. A range of 11 total products were developed that targeted ages 2 to 5 relating to the story and main character.
An online website and promotional material were also created. The book and select products from the range were then translated into two additional languages, with the intent to expand to more languages as popularity grew. Translating the book into multiple languages added to the potential reach the book and product line could have on a multicultural audience.
